60 million CHF for data science
The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) of EPFL and ETH Zurich will receive CHF 60 million for further expansion in the period 2025-2028. The budget of CHF 15 million per year was approved by the ETH Board and is funded directly by the Swiss Confederation and the Canton of Vaud, which is funding various projects in the initial phase with CHF 7 million.
The aim of the SDSC is to support the Swiss scientific community at the ETH domain and beyond, as well as public institutions and the economy in the use of data science and machine learning. In this way, the center offers business enterprises coaching-type expertise and skills for the development of their data strategies.
To promote open, reproducible data science, the SDSC develops open platforms and applications for research, education and innovation projects. These are intended to support open practices throughout the entire life cycle of research data.
