Legal Basis
Following, we provide information about the type, scope and purpose of the personal data we collect. The processing of personal data by the Swiss Research Data Support Network (SRDSN) is subject to the relevant data protection provisions of Switzerland and - where applicable - the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Collection of Personal Data
In principle, our website can be used without you having to disclose personal data, i.e. data that relates to you personally. We do not use a web analysis software that would automatically collect certain data, such as IP addresses and other usage information. The content and scope of the data collected depends on your use of our website: For example, whether you use our forms, subscribe to our news and events notifications, adapt your membership data or simply consult the information provided on the website.
When using the website for information purposes only, i.e. if you do not register or otherwise provide us with information, we only collect the personal data that your browser transmits to our server (e.g. IP address, date and time of the request, browser type). When processing this general data and information, SRDSN does not draw any conclusions about the data subject. The data collected is technically necessary for us to display our website to you and to ensure the stability and security of our services.
When you contact us or submit information to us by email or via any of our forms the data you provide voluntarily (e.g. name, address, email address, telephone number) will be stored by us in order to facilitate our services, to get in touch with you or answer your questions. The transmitted data will not be passed on to third parties - unless this is necessary to fulfill our services or required by law (e.g. in the context of criminal proceedings). To ensure the security of your data during transmission, we use state-of-the-art encryption methods via HTTPS, as well as Google CAPTCHA.
In order to receive notifications regarding news and events on our website, we collect the personal information necessesary (e.g. email address) to fulfil this service.
If you are a SRDSN member, you can log in to the membership section of our website and add your contact information and display it publicly, in order for other members and researchers to be able to contact you. You can adapt or delete this information anytime by logging in to your account. To protect your account and prevent password decryption, we use encryption methods via HTTPS, as well as Google CAPTCHA. If you decide to terminate your membership with the SRDSN, you may delete your account in the membership section. By doing so, all your personal data on the website will be deleted.
Cookies
Cookies are stored on your computer when you use our website. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your computer, cell phone or other device when you visit a website. The cookie helps the website operator to make the website more user-friendly and effective. Cookies cannot execute programs or transmit viruses to your computer.
You can prevent the setting of cookies by our website by means of a corresponding setting of the web browser used and thus permanently object to the setting of cookies. Furthermore, cookies that have already been set can be deleted via a web browser or other software programs. This is possible in all common web browsers.
Google CAPTCHA
To secure your data, when you use our forms or membership pages, we use Google CAPTCHA v2 (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart). CAPTCHA helps protect you from spam and password decryption by asking you to complete a simple test that proves you are human and not a computer trying to break into a password protected account. In order for CAPTCHA to work certain personal data may be collected and processed by Google, such as IP addresses, browser data and other usage information.
Digital Events
For some of our events we use video conferencing solutions from Zoom and Microsoft Teams. The software is managed by the specific institution, hosting the event. The data protection declarations of the respective institution as well as the provider of the specific video conferencing solution are applicable.
